This Speyside distillery famous for its single malts scotch whisky is situated in Dufftown, Scotland, and is still owned to this day by William Grant & Sons. The original William Grant was born back in 1839 in Dufftown, and became a bookkeeper at Mortlach distillery in 1866, where he learned the trade from the inside.
The first foundations of this renowned distillery were laid in 1886, and Grant maintained control until he died in 1923, when he passed the distillery over to his sons. Balvenie is a traditional producer of the finest whiskies, using locally grown barley which is floor malted – only six out of the hundred distilleries in Scotland have their own malting floors, and Balvenie is one of them. The distillery produces a multitude of popular limited edition whiskies, as well as a core range that includes a 50-year-old single cask.
