Vodka, a clear distilled alcoholic spirit originating from Russia and Poland and produced by distilling rye, wheat, potatoes or even grapes. Despite it being classed as a neutral spirit without distinct taste, aroma or colour, how it’s made can actually have a great impact on flavouring- potatoes and wheat produce creamier vodkas, rye makes a spicy spirit, and grapes lend delicate floral notes. Vodka tends to be paired within a cocktail, or with fruit juices although some do prefer it straight up and neat over ice. The name "vodka" itself is a modified form of the Slavic term voda, which means water.
