One sip of rum should transport you to Caribbean shores and white, sandy beaches. Made from sugarcane byproducts such as molasses or sugarcane juice, it’s fermented and distilled into a clear liquid which is then aged in oak barrels. Rum is extremely versatile and can be enjoyed in a variety of combinations, straight up, with cola and in a multitude of cocktails. The Carribean climate allows Caribbean rums to mature rapidly, so much so that a 15 year old rum is the equivalent of a 45 year old Scotch whisky. As with quite a few spirits, rum is best enjoyed in a long stem tulip glass.
