A liqueur is an alcoholic drink composed of distilled spirits with added flavourings such as sugars, fruits, herbs or spices. They provide a pop of flavour and are often served with or after dessert as they are sweet in flavour and un-aged (unless they’ve endured a brief resting period during production, allowing the flavours to mingle). Liqueurs can be enjoyed in many forms including coffee, chocolate, fruit, citrus and liquorice. In drink form, a high quality liqueur can be drunk neat or over ice, otherwise they are a popular ingredient for cocktails.
