During the Victorian era, Cambeltown became known as the whisky producing capital and was one of the five distinctive malt producing regions in Scotland. Glen Scotia takes the historic and tried and tested style and gives it a contemporary twist, helping it to be discovered by a new generation.
By 1851 Campbeltown had 28 distilleries and successful Glen Scotia still endures today. The malts produced at this heritage distillery continue to draw inspiration from its Victorian roots, demonstrating a unique, gently peaty style. The result of using only malted barley sourced from the East of Scotland and a process known as small batch processing has led to Glen Scotia gaining a worldwide following. The distillery itself maintains much of its original design, reflecting the heritage process that is still undertaken. The fermenters, stillroom, and the dunnage date back from the 1830s, providing a link to Glen Scotia’s past.
