Renowned as Scotland’s first licensed distillery, Glen Garioch was founded back in 1797. This also makes the facility one of the oldest Scottish distilleries still in production today. Situated in Aberdeenshire, Glen Garioch has built an incredible reputation for its ageing abilities thanks to some sublime older bottlings – and this may also be down to the distillery’s proximity to barley pastures said to be among the very best in Scotland.
The distillery’s whiskies have an exotic, fruity character, and the older Glen Gariochs are also quite heavily-peated. The distillery itself takes its name from the Valley of the Garioch – a prominent barley-growing region.
