The story of Ballantines distillery starts back in 1827, when founder George Ballantine started his own grocery store in the heart of Edinburgh. His whiskies and spirits were most popular, and he expanded his businesses to include new stores and suppliers accordingly. Eventually, George handed over the reins to his sons Archibald and George Jr, and the brand grew further.
Ballantines eventually bought the Glenburgie and Miltonduff distilleries, as well as building a larger grain distillery at Dumbarton to cope with the high demand for luxurious single malts and blended scotch whiskies. Today, Ballantines produces a number of popular whiskies, from their Finest, which makes up 89% of their worldwide sales, to their forty-year-old blended scotch, noted as complex, fruity and with an intense depth.
