Archibald Mitchell owned the Springbank distillery. In the 1800’s, his sons William and John ran the Springbank distillery while their other siblings took care of the nearby Rieclachan Distillery. After a disagreement over sheep occurred, William left the family business to start his own venture, The Glengyle distillery founded in 1872. After experiencing the highs of producing great whisky and the lows of the economic downturn, it was sold before production ceased in 1925. Now, each bottle of Kilkerran, made by the Glengyle distillery, is an original from this time.
