Haig

Although more recently Haig have become well known for their association with David Beckham, the Haig name is said to have one of the longest histories in whisky production. The Haig family can date their whisky distilling back to the 1650’s, although it was John Haig who opened the Cameronbridge Distillery in 1824 where Haig whisky is still produced today. A pioneer, John Haig perfected the production of grain whisky in continuous stills, something which laid the building blocks for today’s Scotch whisky industry. By 1877 John Haig merged his Cameronbridge Distillery with 5 others to form the Distillers Company Ltd, with Haig kept on as one of the most influential directors.

This would later be purchased by Guinness in 1986, who went on to become Diageo who continue to own the distillery today.

The famous dimpled Haig bottle was developed in the 1890’s and has since gone on to become an icon of the brand. It’s design drew inspiration from bottles created by the House of Haig. The blue colour is taken from the copper stills used in the whisky production, whilst also reflecting on the tradition of Haig’s blenders tasting in blue glasses to hide the colour so it could be judged by taste and aroma alone.
