The Quintet boasts a five cask finish in casks that previously held sweet and rare Moscatel, Malmsey Madeira, 30 Year Old Matusalem sherry, 10 Year Old Port and Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon. With flavours of exotic fruits drenched in maple syrup and coffee notes this single malt is a majestic drinking experience.

Uber-complex
Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) back to the Highland region of Scotland, to the Dalmore distillery. It has been quite a while since I’ve tipped a new dram from Dalmore, but The Quintet (getting it’s name from the 5 cask finish) was on sale, so came into my price range, and I couldn’t resist. It opens with prunes, plums, dried cherries, raisins, strawberries, and blackberries; followed by vanilla, lightly-toasted oak, cinnamon, white pepper, and candied ginger; finishing with iced peaches, milk chocolate, grapefruit zest, woody grape vine, and overripe pineapple, with a little mint late in the finish. This is an uber-complex dram – taking unique flavors from each of the 5 different casks.
Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.

Dalmore
I am a regular consumer of Dalmore whisky and can highly recommend grapevine for the service they gave. Will be back to buy again.
