Built in 1819 and once known as Clynelish, the Brora distillery has produced a multitude of different whiskies in its almost two hundred years of production. Up until 1973, Brora was known for heavily-peated whisky which was supplied to other distilleries for blending. After this point, the distillery switched to a lightly peated style which was more suited to its Highland location.

Production halted for a while at Brora – a new distillery was built alongside it to increase capacity, but unfortunately the advancements in the new distillery put the older location out of business. It was mothballed in 1983, but fans still clamour for it to reopen. Despite the ups and downs, Brora produced one of the most expensive single malts ever released – Brora 40, which hit the market in 2014, sold at a retail price of £6885.99, making it one of the most rare and lucrative spirits ever created.
