Another of Islay’s finest exports, Bowmore produces superb scotch whisky from its unique coastal location. Founded in 1779, Bowmore is thought to be one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, and is owned by Japanese drinks company Suntory, which also owns Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch. The whisky produced at Bowmore has its own individual character, which is largely down to the distillery’s proximity to the coast.
The salty, fresh sea air is drawn into the whisky while it’s maturing, and with floor-malted barley, fine oak casks and a peat-fired kiln, the whisky produced here is perfectly balanced and beloved all over the world. Not much has changed at Bowmore since it was first opened – the whisky is still produced in the same way, with craftsmen that dedicate their whole life to the production of the beautiful spirits.
