Blair Athol distillery is located in Pitlochry in Perthshire, and is most famous for supplying a stunning single malt which is used in Bell’s whisky. Founded back in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson, it’s one of the oldest distilleries in the region. The location changed hands numerous times over the years, and was once known as Aldour, before it was closed entirely in 1932.
By this time, the distillery was falling into disrepair, until it was bought up by Arthur Bell and Sons – the men behind Bell’s whisky, already a big name across the world. They didn’t rebuild the distillery until 1949, but later in 1973 it was expanded to include the two more stills that remain in use today.
