The original BenRiach distillery is situated in the Speyside area of Scotland, a region renowned for its whisky connoisseurs. Originally founded back in 1898 by a local man named John Duff, but soon stopped trading in 1900 due to the bankruptcy of a major whisky buyer in the area. It wasn’t until 1965 that the distillery started to trade again, after being reopened by Glenlivet Distillers.
Nowadays, the distillery is owned by the Benriach Distillery Company – an independent company formed by two South African men and a Scotch whisky expert, all of whom wanted to see the distillery restored to its former glory. The Benriach distillery releases peated and unpeated bottlings, as well as several exotic finishes and independent bottlings. Demand in Asia has soared for these blends in recent years, and seven new bottlings have been released just to cater to these connoisseurs.
