A superbly-balanced mixed dark-berry pie
Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) to the Scottish Highlands to the Teaninich distillery.
The 2010 Port Cask Firkin Rare opens with juicy strawberries, cherries, raspberries, and red plums, followed by toast, buttered toast with thick blackberry jam, then a bit of red chilies, orange peel, and Christmas spices, with no single spice being prominent. This is a superbly-balanced mixed dark-berry pie – sweets and bitters with just the right mix of spices, which makes me long for cool evenings, family gatherings, and lots of pie!
Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
