Tonight’s dram takes me back to the beginning of my single malt scotch days. I first tried Dalwhinnie in 1997 – it was love at first sip. Tonight, I’m sipping the Winter’s Gold, which is distilled during the cold months, thereby claimed to be "Crafted by the Cold". They suggest the flavors are bold enough to drink it cold, but I’m trying it at room temp. It opens with honey, cinnamon, and smoke, then apricots, peaches, and a squeeze of lemon, followed by vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut, evolving to toffee, ginger, green pears, and orange peel. The complexity and diversity of flavors is incredible. I had to take a step back, as I thought I might drain the bottle. I poured a second dram and placed it in the 0oF freezer. After 30 anticipatory minutes of waiting, I extracted the near-frozen dram and gave it a sip. The smoky flavor was ever-present, but other flavors were muted. I’ll stick to the more-than-full-flavor room-temperature sipping. The creamy full-mouthfeel and thick-clingy legs deliver a yummy medium-long finish of perfectly-balanced fruity, sweet, bitter, tart, oaky, savory, malty, smoky, citrusy finish. If there was ever a dram I would highly recommend, this would be it.Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.

One of the most relaxing Scotches enjoyed as an evening "wind-down". Great taste and smooth delivery to the palate.
