Hanyu whisky is a metaphorical phoenix that has risen from the ashes. Based in a Japanese town of the same name, the Hanyu distillery, led by the Akuto family, has been producing Scotch whisky since the 1980s, although it had been fine-tuning its brewing craft since the 1600s. After closing in 2000, faith from Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder, saw the distillery re-open in 2008, producing its much-loves whisky once more, leading it to its current cult status today.
