Courvoisier

Arguably the world’s best known and most popular brand of cognac, Courvoisier was born in a French suburb named Bercy way back in 1809. The 200-year-old crafting process that was established here in this Parisian region has not changed since Courvoisier was first created. Courvoisier is not short of high-profile fans, and they don’t get much higher in profile than Napoleon himself, who is said to have taken several barrels of the cognac with him to St Helena.

The English officers on board the ship named Courvoisier ‘the Cognac of Napoleon’, and the nickname has played a crucial part in the marketing of the drink, even today.

In recent years, one of the world’s oldest bottles of Courvoisier went on sale at Harrod’s, for a special event. It sold for €90,000, making it one of the most expensive spirits ever sold.
